1780, June to July - Drafted for service in Captain John Denton’s Company of Virginia Militia for a period of three months.
1780, November and December - Drafted for service in Captain William Riggins Company under the command of Colonel Peter Hammonds in the Virginia Militia.
1781, March and April - Drafted for service in Captain Ralph Grooms Company guarding prisoners at Cowpens by Colonel Daniel Morgan.
1781, May and June - Served as a substitute for his father, John Hurst, in Captain George Prince’s Company under the command of Colonel Michael Rader in the Virginia Militia for a period of three months.
1781, December to February 1782 - Service in Captain Filley’s Company as a guard in the Continental Army.
1782, February - Furloughed by Colonel Peter Muhlenberg.
