Price Houshell Died May 1

A highly decorated Breathtit County veteran of the Spanish-American War died on May 1, 1943, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. His remains were returned to Breathitt County and buried in the Carpenter Cemetery at Noctor.

Several Years Ago

Funeral services for Price Hounshell, 68, a former resident, were held Sunday, May 2, at the Palmer Memorial Church at Noctor, conducted by Revs. Wilfred Taylor and W. L. Kash.

Mr. Hounshell died Saturday morning at the Veterans’ hospital in Dayton, Ohio following a short illness.

He had not been in good health for some time, but his condition was not considered serious until a short time before his death when he entered the Hospital for an operation.

The body was returned to Jackson by Ray and Blake, local funeral directors and taken to Noctor for services.

Mr. Hounshell retired from the U.S. Army about ten years ago and returned to his farm near Noctor, on the Jackson-Salyersville Highway. 

He later sold his home to his brother, Finley Hounshell and bought property in Fayette County where he had since lived until his death.  He was a member of a well-known family of this county, and the son of the late Harve Hounshell.

Mr. Hounshell is survived by his wife, Lillian Carpenter Hounshell, two sons, Alfred and Kenney Hounshell and four brothers and five sisters: Finley, Curt, Clifton, and Fitch; Mrs. Tom Barnett, Mrs. Mollie Carpenter, Mrs. Nettie Campbell, Mrs. Maude Campbell, and Mrs. Grover Davis, of this city.
