Eight of us ventured out the first weekend of April to complete Hike Four of the 2021 Sheltowee Trace Challenge. The schedule for the month of April was altered due to the Easter holiday, and hikers were spread across three weekends. Team Heron hiked from Todd’s Road to Lago Linda Hideaway on Saturday and onto Natural Bridge State Park on Sunday. The hike was very nice, with clear skies and warm weather. Saturday was highlighted by strong winds of more than 50 miles an hour and a power outage at Lago Linda, but not until after supper was ready at the cafe.

The hike is a road walk for most of the trip, with the two days login in at 31.36 miles- 13.08 on Saturday and 18.28 on Sunday. It is a fun walk and a great time to socialize and get to know your fellow hikers. It is better to hike in groups and enjoy the day.

Steve Barbour supported the hike in the new Sheltowee Trace Association van that was recently purchased by the Board. The new van was needed and is a real help moving hikes up and down the trail during the hikes that we have ahead. If you have the opportunity, please support our effort to pay for the van.

Enjoy your April hike, and wear comfortable shoes on the asphalt. Hiking boots and shoes are too heavy. Tennis shoes work very well on this hike. Barking dogs were a minor issue in two places, but they were not aggressive. No incidents were reported.

Have fun. We will see you down the trail.
