Died at age 24 on March 6, 1864, of inflammation of the lungs at the Camp Nelson General Hospital at Camp Nelson in Jessamine County, Kentucky. He was hospital patient number 2581.

James Akemon was originally listed as “Joseph” on the grave registry at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. It was later corrected to James. The registry also listed his burial as Grave 276, but it was later corrected to Grave 275.

Buried on March 6, 1864, in Grave 275 of Section A at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery at Camp Nelson in Jessamine County, Kentucky.

Sarah (Marsham) Akemon filed for a Mother’s Pension in 1869. The Pension Bureau approved her application (Number 176.269) on June 12, 1869. She was awarded Certificate #137.083.
