Mrs. Jane Moore Dies December 27
A short time ago the community at Whick was greatly shocked by the sad news of the sudden passing away of one of its well-known and long-time residents, Mrs. Sampson Moore.
Jane Spicer was born on Middle Fork, Breathitt County, Ky., September 14, 1888, and passed away at her home at Whick, Ky. on December 27, 1948, at the age of 60 years, three months, and 13 days.
She was united in marriage to Sampson Moore on January 13, 1907. To this union were born 14 children, 3 of whom preceded her in death.
Those remaining to mourn her loss are her husband, Mr. Sampson Moore, of Whick; 11 children: Vernon, of Whick; Sanford, of Hardburly; Mrs. Elsie Deaton, Austin, Ind.; Mrs. Bessie Blaha, Oakridge, Tenn.; Woodrow, Homer, and Daymon, Whick; Mrs. Cora Strong, Whick; Mrs. Julia Chapman and Lola, at home; and Mrs. Elizabeth Combs, Jackson. Mrs. Moore is also survived by two brothers, Whick Spicer of Whick and Estell Spicer. A sister, Mrs. Lulu Spicer of Guon, and 27 grandchildren.
The deceased will be missed by a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning in charge of George’s Branch Mission, and internment was in the little cemetery on the hillside above the Moore home.

A pie supper at Little Saturday night yielded $42.00 as reported. Lee Hall and Samp Moore were in contest for the ugly man prize. Samp won by a small margin. Alice Hall won the girl’s beauty contest. Most people thought Lee should have won over Samp, but he never does.

Here For Funeral
Out-of-town relatives here to attend the funeral of Deputy County Court Clerk Ed Moore are his brothers, Ben F. Moore of Glen Allen, Virginia; Sampson Moore, Whick, Allen Moore, Butterfly, and P. W. Moore of Middletown, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Pat Taulbee of Ft. Lewis, Washington and a son, James R. Moore of Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Married to Elva (Strong) Napier on January 12, 1952 at Jackson, Breathitt County, Kentucky. Daughter of Samuel J. and America (Haddix) Strong.
Died on April 9, 1956, at the Huntington Veterans Administration Hospital at Huntington in Wayne County, West Virginia.
Buried in the Moore Family Cemetery at Whick in Breathitt County, Kentucky

Sampson Moore Dies At Veterans Hospital
On April 9, 1956, at Huntington Veterans Hospital, Huntington, W. Va., death came to Sampson Moore of Whick, Breathitt County. Mr. Moore was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and was honorably discharged on July 4, 1902, having served three years. After his discharge, he was married to Miss Jane Spicer, who died in 1948.
To this union, there are eleven children living: five sons, Vernon Moore, Lost Creek, Sanford Woodrow, Homer, and Damon, all of Whick, and six daughters, Mrs. Elsie Deaton of Austin, Indiana, Mrs. Bessie Blaha of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Mrs. Julia McCleese of Maxville, Florida, Mrs. Cora Strong of Whick, and Mrs. Blackburn Griffith and Mrs. Edward Combs of Jackson. He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Elva Moore of Watts, and 46 grandchildren.
Mr. Moore has been in declining health for some time, having spent time in many different veteran hospitals. During his last illness, he was given every attention, not only from nurses and doctors but from his wife and all his children and grandchildren. He had the love and respect of all his family and friends, who ministered in every way possible to his comfort.
Funeral services were held at his old home place at Whick in the presence of a large crowd of loved ones, neighbors, and friends, with the beautiful and comforting messages of Rev. W. J. Arrowood, Willie Napier, John Strong, and Jimmie Turner, together with Damon Moore, son of the deceased.
Mr. Moore was a brother of County Court Clerk Cora M. Noble and the late Ed Moore.
