August 14, 1945 – Albert Sidney Johnson “Sid” Jett was the son of Hercannus and Caroline (McQuinn) Jett. Born on the family farm near Jett’s Creek, he married Angeline Herald on August 2, 1888, in Breathitt County.
The couple raised their children near Guerrant, where Sid Jett was a well-known horse and cattle trader and farmer. He operated a store in the community for serval years.
He died at the home of Ezekiel “Zeke” Jett on Tuesday, August 14, 1945, of arteriosclerosis. He was buried in the family cemetery the following day. The Jackson Times printed his obituary on the front page of the August 16, 1945 edition.
Sid Jett Dies At Home of Son Near Highland
Sid Jett, native of Breathitt county, but the past several years a resident of Irvine, died August 14 at the home of his son, Zeke Jett, near Highland. He had been ill for some time and was brought to his son’s home three days prior to his death.
Funeral services were held the day following his death at the Curt Jett graveyard at Turkey Creek.
He was the son of the late Arkansas and Carolyn. McQuinn Jett.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kate Jett, two daughters, Miss Lou Terry, Mrs. Emma Terry, and his son. One brother, Arch Jett of Oakdale, is living.
An incident occurred in his infancy, which is remembered by the older residents of the county. Following the Civil War, Mr. Jett’s parents in order to avoid the difficulties prevailing as a result of the war, journeyed to Arkansas and took the child, still a babe in arms, with them. Four brothers and sisters were left behind with relates.
